Bathing lakes in the Salzkammergut
Lakes for swimming next to Faistenau
The product of the Salzkammergut chamber was salt. The most valuable product for guests is the lakes and these lakes in the Salzkammergut are a true gift of nature. There is the emerald green Lake Fuschl or the wild-romantic Lake Hintersee in Faistenau, the songs of Lake Wolfgang or the royal-blue colour of Lake Attersee.
Actually, there is not one or the other, for you can see them all. Each lake has its own appeal to walk, bike, read or relax, but also of course to swim and fish.
We would like to introduce you to some of the loveliest lakes of the Salzkammergut:
Lake Fuschl is just a stone´s throw from Faistenau. The cleanest and clearest of the Salzburger lakes with top drinking water quality and furthermore it has no motor boat traffic. Where today swimmers and bathing guests enjoy refreshing on hot summer days, this was the lake where the former Archbishops of Salzburg had their fish caught for their banquet table. Lake Fuschl is easily reached by bike or with an electric bike, and then dive into the emerald green waters.
The natural jewel Lake Hintersee should be seen from all sides. The 5 kilometre round walk is ideal for families with small children and prams. Public beaches as well as private beaches with boot hire and more, await water lovers of every age. In the vicinity there are 150 kilometres of hiking trails to Faistenauer mountain pastures waiting to be discovered and this not only in summer.
About 11 kilometres long and at no point wider than 1 ½ km wide, Lake Mondsee lies embedded in the lower Alps of Upper Austria. This well-loved bathing lake is also popular for water sports. A tip for every occasion: From fishing to canoeing, from sailing to diving and water skiing to wind or kite surfing here it is all possible.
The White Horse Inn on Lake Wolfgang was the theme of the well-known operetta from Ralph Bernatzky. Not only nostalgic lovers but also water fans and bathing beauties feel at home on the shores of Lake Wolfgang. Here one can try out a number of water sports from sailing the waves, water skiing or diving, just a few of the many options.
